Healthy Eating- No Celeb Required
“All 11-year-olds in England will be able to receive a free cookbook under a programme aimed at tackling obesity.
Head teachers will be able to order the booklet, which has recipes for favourites such as spaghetti bolognese, roast chicken and jacket potatoes.
Ministers are also announcing that £151m will be spent building food technology areas in schools.
The initiatives are designed to pave the way for compulsory cooking lessons for all 11- to 14-year olds by 2011.”
All in all- a good move I’d say. A simple free recipe book for everyone who wants to cook. Ed Balls cocks it up by talking some crap- but he’s politician, so we can let him off. Example-
“Too many people just accept they cannot cook or simply do not have time for it,”
How is a free book going to change that?
There are flaws obviously. People who have an aversion to cooking will not take part and some people who do cook won’t take part because they haven’t got time / can’t be arsed. Most parents take minimal interest in the stuff their kids bring home from school. Those who will cook with their kids would probably have bought their own cookbook.
Still- it’s a decent idea and I applaud the government for doing it.
Jamiegohome fully support any effort to promote healthy eating except:
1] Schemes which are designed to promote the sales of books and TV shows for profit.
2] Reality TV shows that present hearsay and speculation as facts.
3] Reality TV shows that are willing to humiliate people for the sake of entertainment.
4] Reality TV shows that will unfairly discredit the reputation of Rotherham and have an adverse affect on the people who live there.
5] Schemes that have ill thought out solutions which are obviously geared to entertainment rather than real change.
6] Any scheme which claims to support a healthy lifestyle that is endorsed by companies such as supermarkets- the natural enemies of a healthy lifestyle.
